On the TEAC site in the "CDW512E/KIT Contents" part they say that they ship with the retail-version (or "KIT") the following software:

  • Adaptec Software for Windows 95/98/NT and 2000 Professional (Full Install)

  1. Easy CD Creator data and audio recording software 4.02d or higher
  2. DirectCD drag & drop software 3.01d or higher
  3. CD Copier disc to disc copy software

In our case the recorder is shipped together with software from Ahead, it means that the complete set depends on either a country-importer or a revision of the devices.

It's difficult to say whose pickup was used by TEAC in the previous models, but the User's manual says that in the CD-W512EB they used it from Sanyo.

The tested drive had a 2.0À version microprogram. The 2.0B version that can be downloaded from here adds a possibility of recording in DAO-RAW mode.

A bit surprising is the fact that they do not ship a CD (as they usually did before) with useful info on products released by TEAC and different software.

On the box you can find system requirements for the computer on which the CD-RW will be installed.

The same info can be found in the manual.

The appearance of the front panel have been described many times.

When pressing the eject button the tray goes out with a little delay. Besides, I should note a long recognition time.

The Overburn CD-R Philips Silver on this drive gained 2 min. 20 sec. (77:03.48)

The Overburn CD-R Mirex Gold gained 2 min. 56 sec. (77:26.48)
