This model of the TEAC recorder appeared to call forth a lot of argues.

First, many were surprised that the most part of the programs can access only 1280 KBytes of the buffer while on the site in the user's manual they say that the buffer's size is 2048 KBytes. Look: 2048 KB is the total buffer size, but for system utilization only 1280 KB can be used (available capacity).

Besides, when the recorder was released one could find no information on it on the Net. Only some time later the site published official data on it.

The rumors on suspension of the CD-W58E have just added fuel to the fire. First, this becoming outdated, but popular and cheap CD-W54E recorder needed to be replaced by something. The W58E would suit best. Secondly, the news disappointed many users since they were going to purchase it. Besides, the situation with a release of new firmware versions was vague. Different competent people said that the model was taken out of the production due to high percentage of defective articles.

Nevertheless, I think that the drive was very successful and showed high results.

The system requirements for the computer are humbler than that of the CD-W512EB: Pentium-level processor with 90 MHz clock speed and 16 MBytes RAM.

I don't want to concern the design of the CD-W58E since it is just absent.

The Overburn CD-R Philips Silver on this drive gained 2 min. 22 sec. (77:05.32)

The Overburn CD-R Mirex Gold gained 2 min. 53 sec. (77:23.12)
